Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-Min Son has labelled his teammate Cristian Romero a ‘special’ player.

Son spoke to Tottenham’s media team after last night’s 2-0 win over Fulham and singled out Romero for praise.

The 31-year-old got amongst the goals once again on Monday evening as he netted his seventh goal of the season.

James Maddison rounded off the win for Spurs with a neat finish as Son grabbed his first assist of the campaign.

Tottenham weren’t at their best last night and Ange Postecoglou certainly made his feelings clear after the game.

But Cristian Romero put in another commanding display at centre-back as he continued his excellent start to the season. And Son has admitted he could watch Romero play football ‘all day’.

Son lauds ‘special’ Romero

Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Son lauded Romero after the victory over Fulham.

“Cuti is just special,” the Spurs skipper said. “Just look at him, I could watch him all day sitting here and watch the way he plays.”

Romero has been exceptional so far this season after a shaky campaign last time out.

The 25-year-old was often criticised for some reckless displays last season but he seems to have rediscovered his best form under Postecoglou.

That is partly down to the arrival of Micky van de Ven, with the duo striking up a promising partnership in central defence. He was also named as one of Tottenham’s vice-captains when Son was given the armband over the summer.

Romero had already shown what a talented defender he was, particularly during the earlier stages of Antonio Conte’s tenure.

But he cut a frustrated figure last season and it’s a huge boost for Spurs to have the Argentine back to his best.

The World Cup winner is still displaying the aggression that is such a huge weapon for Tottenham, but he has shown more composure alongside Van de Ven of late.

Spurs seem to have found their perfect centre-back pairing and it’s hard to disagree with Son’s comments on Romero given his recent form.
