Tottenham have enjoyed an explosive if not completely successful start to the Premier League season under Jose Mourinho.
A stunning 6-1 win at Manchester United caught the eye, but then a catastrophic collapse last weekend from three up against West Ham seemingly exposed some of the same old problems at Spurs.

It’s two wins, two draws, and a loss from their opening five games. However, the goals are flowing, with Tottenham topping the charts with an impressive 15 in the F chart so far.
Within those 15 goals, Harry Kane has hit five, while Heung-Min Son has scored seven. On it’s own, it underlines the importance of the attacking pair to the Spurs cause.
It’s also enough justification as to why Kane is the top earner at the club, while Son is reportedly set to be awarded a new contract in the coming days.

But out of the pair – who are both integral – a basic delve into some key attacking stats would suggest it is indeed Son who is the more lethal and important of the two.
Ratio
Stats can often be manipulated and put in place to suit an argument. Of course, there is a recognition of that. But according to Whoscored, despite the perception of Kane being the lethal finisher in the Spurs squad, it is actually the South Korean superstar who comes out on top.
Son has scored seven times as mentioned, but he has netted those by averaging just 2.4 shots per game. In comparison, Kane has netted five, with the England man having five shots per game for those goals.

While that is from a small snapshot this season, interestingly, Kane and Son were neck and neck last term in this stat, at 2.7 and 2.8 respectively.
Son is also averaging more key passes a game with 3.2 to Kane’s 2.6, despite the England skipper leading the Premier League assist charts, something Son also trumped Kane in last term.
So, while Kane continues to be vital to Tottenham, on the surface of things, it seems like it is the 28-year-old from the Far East who may actually be the crucial cog in Mourinho’s attacking trio.
