'He's working very hard': Conte says £22m Spurs player has been absolutely superb in training

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has lauded Spurs forward Son Heung-min for his efforts this season.

The South Korea international has once again been absolutely sensational for the Lilywhites this term.

Son has registered 19 goals and eight assists in just 31 Premier League appearances in 2021-22.

His 19-goal tally places him just three behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Son’s efforts this season have helped Tottenham remain in contention to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

With four games to go – including the north London derby – Spurs are just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

On Saturday night, Spurs head to Liverpool in an absolutely crucial fixture for both sides.

While Tottenham are chasing a top-four place, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are fighting to stay in a very close title race.

“Wants to improve himself”

Ahead of the game, Football.london‘s Alasdair Gold asked Conte what an achievement he thought it’d be for Son to win the Golden Boot.

“For sure,” replied the Spurs boss. “I knew him in the past but now to see him during the training session you can understand the quality of the player.

“For sure he is a player that wants to improve himself. This is the main reason you are seeing him in this peak of form.

“He is working very hard, I see him every day with the will and the right desire to improve himself and work for the team.

“He is scoring a lot but at the same time during the game he helps the team a lot without the ball.

“For me when this happens I am very happy because I understand I have a player that thinks not only for himself but thinks for the team before himself.”

Tottenham really did land a bargain in 2015 when they bought Son from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £22million.

Aside from being a world-class forward, the 29-year-old also has the perfect attitude on and off the pitch.
