'He's very, very good': Alan Shearer wowed by one Newcastle player's display tonight

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer lauded Kieran Trippier during the Magpies’ Carabao Cup win at Tranmere.

The 31-year-old began the game on the bench, but came on to replace the injured Emil Krafth in the 39th minute.

Newcastle were a goal down when Trippier came on, but he soon helped the Magpies draw level.

He whipped in a corner which Jamaal Lascelles met and eventually slammed home on the rebound.

Trippier also provided the corner that Chris Wood powerfully headed into the net on 52 minutes.

Throughout the game, the former Atletico Madrid man provided numerous superb deliveries for his teammates.

The Athletic’s George Caulkin took to Twitter to say “you kind of have to pinch yourself” over Trippier playing for Newcastle.

And Shearer responded by saying Trippier is a “very, very good” player.

Trippier really has been a sensational signing for Newcastle.

Aside from being the first player to join the club following the takeover, he has also been consistently great for Eddie Howe’s side.

And that’s before mentioning his incredible scoring and assisting record from set pieces.

Trippier has taken four direct free-kicks for Newcastle in the Premier League since joining in January, and has scored three of them.
