'He's told me’: Dwight McNeil now shares what Tarkowski told him about Everton before he joined them

Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski have both joined Everton from relegated Burnley this summer.

The Toffees have finally kickstarted their summer of recruitment and McNeil is the latest new arrival at Goodison Park.

The winger has plenty of potential to improve and is looking to go to the next level after a tricky season at Turf Moor last time out.

The winger has had his first interview with Everton’s official YouTube channel, where he spoke about the influence of Tarkowski on his decision.

McNeil shares Tarkowski influence on Everton switch

“First and foremost it’s about settling in, just enjoying my time being here, and being sure I’m good to go. I’ve been in contact with Tarky and he’s told me how much he’s enjoyed it,” said McNeil.

“Obviously going away on the pre-season tour and coming back. It’ll be good to see him again, reunite and to meet the other lads as well. I know [Tom Davies and Ben Godfrey] from past experiences, and that makes it a little bit easier and helps you settle in faster. It’s a beautiful training ground and a great setup to come and work.

“I think coming here is going to help me get to that next level and that’s what I’m looking to improve on. I think being around other great players they help you out massively as well and it’s just good to learn from them every day, be around them.

“I can imagine they’re all great lads, playing against them they’re all amazing players. I’m looking forward to joining in. “He’s [Townsend] been in the game for such a long time, it’s good to have them older lads behind you to give their experience and help you in both sides of the game.”

Some may scoff at Everton getting players from a club who were relegated last season, but McNeil and Tarkowski are solid professionals with great Premier League experience.

Tarkowski will come in and improve their backline straight away, while McNeil does have the ability and potential to really push on.

He needs to add more goals and assists to his game, that much is clear, but he will hope to do that in an Everton side which needs a new talisman after the exit of Richarlison to Tottenham.
