‘He’s the perfect example’: Pundit says Chelsea need a player like £30m Manchester United man

Scott McTominay has been the surprise star for Manchester United this season.

The Scot was close to being out the door for £30m this summer as the Red Devils looked to revamp their squad, but he’s been almost the main man for United this term, popping up with important goals time and time again.

McTominay has been one of few United players this term worthy of praise, and speaking on Off The Ball, John Giles has spoken highly of the midfielder.

Giles hailed McTominay for his attitude and the way he approaches every game, stating that Chelsea could really do with a player like him who would die for the shirt every time he steps onto the pitch.

Chelsea need someone like McTominay

Giles shared his verdict on the United ace.

“Yeah, it’s called attitude. A good attitude goes a long way. I was never a fan of his, I must be honest, but I’m becoming a fan now because he’s playing for Manchester United the way all the players should be playing for them. He loves the club and he loves doing it. You mention Martial and Rashford, what they need is McTominay’s attitude to what he does every time he plays. He’s the perfect example of how the other players should be approaching games. Chelsea, I think Pochettino has huge problems there, he doesn’t have one player like McTominay, they have talented players, but it doesn’t look like they love Chelsea, they want to play for Chelsea or they’re proud to play for Chelsea,” Giles said.

No heart

Giles is spot on here.

Is Scott McTominay as good a player as Enzo Fernandez or Moises Caicedo? Probably not. But he shows more heart for United than those two ever have for Chelsea.

The Blues are lacking a bit of steel in the team, and a player like McTominay would be just what the doctor ordered for the Blues.

Unfortunately, these players are hard to come by, but Chelsea do need to find someone who would be willing to work for the team in the same way McTominay does at United.
