Alasdair Gold has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have made Dusan Vlahovic their number one strike target now, on the Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast.

Top target

Spurs seemed to be chasing Lautaro Martinez throughout the summer alongside Vlahovic.

However, with Inter Milan’s financial health boosted from the sale of Romelu Lukaku, that deal has started to look impossible.

As a result Vlahovic has moved up the pecking order, but even landing him won’t be easy.

The Serbian is also wanted by Atletico Madrid, with some reports suggesting that Diego Simeone’s side have had an offer accepted today.

And Gold thinks it will now be up to Tottenham to convince the 21-year-old that Spurs is the best place to be, if they want to land him.

“I understand that Vlahovic is the one now, but it’s Tottenham so there’s always a caveat and the problem is that Atletico Madrid really want him as well,” he said.

“As we always have said in the past, Tottenham don’t really do bidding wars.

“It’s probably going to be a case of having to convince the player that Spurs are the best option for him.

“A key part of that will be saying that if Harry Kane is going to play you’re going to play alongside him.”

Appealing signing

If Tottenham can beat Atleti to the punch and land Vlahovic, then they will have an extremely exciting set of attacking options.

With Heung-Min Son already opening his scoring account for the season, and Harry Kane back in training – Spurs already have two of the most elite goalscorers in the Premier League in their squad.

If they could bring in Vlahovic, who netted 21 goals last season, then Spurs would have real threats from all areas.

And after a win against Manchester City on opening day, the signing of Vlahovic could increase confidence further around the North London club.
