‘He’s suffering’: David Ornstein now shares whether Declan Rice will be fit for England’s clash with France

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now shared whether West Ham United star Declan Rice will be fit for England’s clash with France.

Rice has been a standout performer under David Moyes and has gone on to cement his place in England’s starting line-up over the past two years.

The 23-year-old has started in every game at the World Cup and helped Gareth Southgate’s men on their run to the quarter finals.

But Rice was missing from England training today and it has casted doubt over his availability for Saturday’s huge meeting with France. Ornstein posted an update on Twitter today and spoke about Rice’s race to be available for Saturday.

Will Rice be fit for England vs France?

Ornstein provided an update on both Callum Wilson and Rice, stating that the Newcastle striker is continuing his rehabilitation for a minor strain indoors.

The journalist also claims that Rice has been suffering with an illness, but he has received no indication that it could keep him out of Saturday’s clash yet.

“The bigger news is that Declan Rice is not here – England’s key midfielder. He’s suffering from an illness of sorts, he’s not well,” Ornstein said on his Twitter account

“We’ve got no suggestions that it’s anything that risks his involvement in participation against France.

“But it’s obviously a little bit disappointing for England that he’s not out here with just two more training sessions after today before that massive fixture.”

It would be a massive blow for Southgate if Rice is unable to feature against France. England are facing their toughest test of the tournament so far and will need his influence in midfield.

Southgate seems to have found a good balance in the middle of the park over the past two games, with Rice starting alongside Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson.

Rice will be desperate to recover in time for Saturday’s clash and it’s promising news that Ornstein hasn’t been told that Rice will be ruled out of the game just yet.
