Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been singing the praises of a number of his players ahead of this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa.

Postecoglou knows his side go into the game needing to get a result to keep their Champions League hopes well and truly alive and kicking.

The Spurs boss has, in the main, overseen an impressive tenure so far and key to the excellent results and performances on offer has been the performances of Cristian Romero.

The Argentinian defender is part of Spurs’ leadership group. And speaking about Romero to Football.London, Postecoglou has lauded the impact of his star defender.

“He’s outstanding but I thought he was from day one. He’s a World Cup winner. You don’t win World Cups as a starter, a contributor [unless you’re good]. He’s got great pedigree, he’s a great defender, great guy, very driven and motivated. Highly, highly competitive in everything he does and I love that. There’s nothing more you’d want in an athlete and he’s a great example for the other guys,” Postecoglou said.

Tottenham are lucky to have Cristian Romero

Some signings work out and some don’t, that’s just how it goes sometimes as a football club, especially in the Premier League.

However, there is absolutely no doubt that Cristian Romero has been one of the best signings in recent times for Tottenham. In fact, that could even go as far as the Premier League overall.

Romero cost big money for Spurs but sometimes you get what you pay for and Tottenham have certainly got that with the 25-year-old.

The defender has been so, so crucial for Spurs and with Micky van de Ven alongside him, there is a big chance Spurs do something special this season.

This weekend is crucial for their top four hopes though and they’ll need Romero at his best to see of Villa.
