A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have hit out at comments made by the agent of Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga saying would be his “dream” to bring the player to Napoli one day, in conversation with Corriere Dello Sport.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Tottenham last term, making his debut in the League Cup defeat to Colchester United before making his Premier League bow against Liverpool on 11 January.
Tanganga made 11 senior appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season, including six in the Premier League, and in July, signed a new long-term contract – reportedly worth £25,000-a-week – which keeps him at the North London club until 2025.
Roberto De Fanti, who represents the versatile defender, told Corriere Dello Sport that, whilst his client is effectively off limits due to his new contract, he would love for him to one day join the Serie A title challengers.
“He has almost unique features: combining physicality, speed and technique,” said De Fanti. “The only problem is that we decided to stay with Spurs, extending his contract.
“Any potential suitor will have to deal with the London club’s management. Obviously we all know the history of Napoli and for me, as an Italian, it would be a dream to bring Japhet there one day.”
Any suggestion of a move from an agent, even if it’s just hypothetical or said in jest, is unlikely to go down well with any parent club’s camp, and it’s unlikely that Daniel Levy and co will be impressed by De Fanti’s comments.
And some Spurs fans made their feelings known on social media:

Needs to be told to keep quiet.

This is very bizarre considering he has just signed a long term contract!

These agents don’t appear to have a great deal of common sense at times. Why potentially unsettle a young player and worse still, rattle the cages of Levy and Mourinho. Bizarre behaviour.
