‘He’s not the most talented’… Pundit says £27m Arsenal player’s mentality is just incredible

Arsenal have one of the most talented squads in world football right now.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba are genuine world-class talents, but aside from these remarkably gifted players, Arsenal have plenty of, to steal a phrase from Jurgen Klopp, ‘mentality monsters’.

Indeed, while not all of Arsenal’s players have this God-given gift of talent, they are all incredibly hard working.

Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, David Hillier has been discussing some of Arsenal’s players, and he says that Gabriel Magalhaes is a player who he believes has more mental strength than talent.

Gabriel has more mental strength than talent

Hillier spoke about the £27m man.

“Is there anyone in this squad who you think has more mental strength than talent?” Hillier was asked.

“It takes a balance of players who are all different. The first player who springs to mind for me is Gabriel, I think when he’s really focused you can see it in his face. But he’s not the most talented. He couldn’t go and play in midfield, Ben White and Saliba could step in there, but he is 100% committed and he gets everything right still,” Hillier said.

Harsh

Gabriel Magalhaes has an incredible mentality, don’t get us wrong, but to discount his talent is a bit unfair.

You don’t get this far in the game unless you’re incredibly gifted, and that’s what Magalhaes is.

Yes, he’s not a ball-player in the same way William Saliba or Ben White are, but he reads the game incredibly well, and he’s more than handy on the ball.

Gabriel is a remarkably talented player, and while this is a compliment towards his mental fortitude, we also must make sure not to ignore just how good he is in terms of his natural ability.
