'He's not fit': Conte confirms 45-cap Tottenham star will miss Arsenal clash

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that Eric Dier will miss Sunday’s north London derby meeting with Arsenal.

The Spurs defender hasn’t played since the New Year’s Day victory over Watford due to a muscular problem.

Tottenham were already without forward Heung-min Son and centre-back Cristian Romero because of long-term injuries.

With Eric Dier, he is suffering a little muscular problem and he’s not fit for the game against Arsenal,” he told football.london.

“It’s a pity we have to play these three games before the international break and then recover these important players.

“It’s important to recover these important players, it’s life for us these players.”

Dier has been a crucial player for Spurs this season, making 18 starts in the Premier and 22 appearances in all competitions.

The 45-cap England international’s absence leaves Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies and Japhet Tanganga as senior defenders in Conte’s back three.

Conte also revealed that Spurs are checking a potential covid case, though the identity of the player was not revealed.

The game itself is currently in doubt, with Arsenal requesting the postponement of the match due to a lack of available players.

As per BBC Sport, the Gunners said they have “reluctantly taken this step”

This is due to injuries, positive covid cases and players away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Premier League board will consider Arsenal’s request on Saturday.
