Ben White isn’t your typical footballer.
The Arsenal defender is a fantastic player, but he is unorthodox in that he isn’t necessarily a football fan.
While some players are true students of the game who are obsessed with the sport, White is someone who can take it or leave it, claiming that he doesn’t actually watch football outside of his work.
Speaking on the More Than a Game Podcast, Conor Coady has been discussing White and the fact he doesn’t watch football, and he says that it is indeed true that the defender doesn’t enjoy the game the way the rest of us do, claiming that it’s mad that he operates in this way.

Coady shocked by White
The defender spoke about the £50m Arsenal man.
“I remember having my mind blown that Assou-Ekotto at Spurs said he hated footy, and it’s a job. That’s mad isn’t it? I found it mad when Ben White said he doesn’t watch football,” The host said.
“I can tell you that’s the truth as well by the way, that is the truth, he’s mad, he’s mad. But again, someone like Ben, most lads like footy, but he’s a top fella as well, when we went to the World Cup we had a chat about loads of things, but I do fully agree, when you hear people say it’s just a job, it’s not,” Coady said.
Unusual
It has to be said that this is very unusual.
Most football players are fans first, especially in England.
There’s such a strong footballing culture in this country whether that’s going to games, watching on TV or just talking about the game with friends, it’s an all-encompassing sport for some.
However, White seemingly never caught the bug like the rest of us, and while he is immensely talented at the game, he seemingly has no interest in it beyond his job.
We can’t understand this mindset, but it seems to work for White as he’s reached the top of the game.
