Mikel Arteta has been lauding the impact of his experienced midfielder Jorginho ahead of Arsenal facing West Ham this weekend.

The Gunners take on the Hammers away from home looking to build on the win over Liverpool last weekend.

Mikel Arteta loved what he saw from his Gunners team last week. They battled hard against the Reds and in the end, deserved the win in what felt like a huge moment for them in the season.

Of course, key to the win was midfielder Jorginho. The Italian came in from the cold to shine for the Gunners and Arteta has been lauding his experienced midfielder.

Mikel Arteta says Jorginho is just incredible

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the West Ham game, Arteta commented on Jorginho’s performance v Liverpool and admitted they will miss him massively if he leaves.

“I’m not surprised because he’s done it. When you look at his career and his ability to deliver in big games and big moments, it’s incredible. That’s why we decided to bring him in. Big credit to him too because when you don’t play regularly to have the ability to come in and do that is incredible.”

When pressed on if they’d miss him if he left, Arteta was under no illusions.

“For sure. He’s a really important player for us. I think he’s got something unique to the team. His leadership, his understanding of the game. His capacity to coach and to determine what is needed in every moment of the game, it’s a unique quality that is so hard to find,” Arteta said.

Jorginho showing why he was signed

Some Arsenal fans questioned the signing of Jorginho at the time when he came in from Chelsea but games like last weekend showed just why he was signed.

The Gunners need that experience in the middle of the park among a squad who are full of talent but remain very young.

Arteta is rightly delighted with his man and its obvious he doesn’t want to lose him either. Quite whether they’ll offer him a new deal on his current £110k-a-week money, remains to be seen.

But Jorginho has a big influence at Arsenal it seems and right now, he’s worth his weight in gold to Arteta.
