Liverpool cruised past Brentford today to go back to the top of the Premier League as their ruthless finishing eased them home.
The Reds took the lead when Darwin Nunez chipped in to open the scoring before the game then simply got away from Brentford in the second half.
For Liverpool, it was a bit of a nightmare day barring the result, as injuries to Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota threatened to ruin the day. But in the end, it was a comfortable day at the office and Liverpool will be delighted with their work.
While the finishing was good for for the Reds, at the back, Ibou Konate and Virgil van Dijk were once again in fine form at the back.

And speaking about Konate to TNT after the game, Van Dijk admitted that he’s been so impressed with his £36m partner this season.
“I enjoy it a lot. Ibou is obviously still learning, still so young. He’s got so much potential and he’s got everything for a modern-day centre-half which is how the game goes nowadays. You have to be fast, you have to be able to play, deal with a massive space in behind, and I think he’s a good learner. He wants to learn and take the responsibility of being a leader in the team as well. It’s great to see, and I like these players who want to improve and be better and have a passion to win every game,” Van Dijk said.
Konate and Van Dijk are brilliant
You won’t get many defensive duos better than this in world football right now. There is a reason Liverpool are right up there with one of the best defences in England and it showed again today.
Konate seems to be getting better and better and playing alongside Van Dijk is the perfect tonic for him in terms of that continued improvement.
We often see Liverpool’s attacking players get the praise. But at the moment, Van Dijk and Konate are just as good as anyone at the club.
