‘He’s going to smash it’: Louie Barry reacts after ‘excellent’ Aston Villa 19-year-old leaves on loan

Aston Villa academy ace Tyreik Wright will be plying his trade away from Villa Park on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 19-year-old winger has linked up with Walsall, becoming Darrell Clarke’s first signing of the January transfer window.

Wright has been an ever-present for Villa’s Under-23 squad in the current campaign, making 11 appearances and scoring twice in the Premier League 2.

He also featured in all three group games for Villa’s youngsters in this season’s EFL Trophy and claimed an assist in a 3-1 defeat to Carlisle.

Walsall are 11th in the League Two table after 22 games, sitting four points outside of the play-off positions, and Wright could make his debut against Oldham on Saturday.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” Wright, who will wear the number 27 shirt at Walsall, told the Saddlers website.

“I just want to thank the gaffer and Walsall for giving me the opportunity to come here on loan. I have been waiting a long time for this opportunity and I just can’t wait to get started.”

Clarke, meanwhile, said: “Tyreik is going to give us great options out wide. He’s got great ability with the ball at his feet and he has the potential to be a real threat in the final third.

“He’s been showing his match winning qualities in the under 23’s at Villa and for his country at youth level so we are really looking forward to working with him.

“We’ve got a great relationship with Aston Villa and we’re very grateful to them for letting us have one of their exciting youngsters.”

Villa prodigy Louie Barry waxed lyrical about his Villa academy teammate on Twitter:

And plenty of Villa fans also wished him well and tipped him for success in red:
