‘He’s fine’: Sky pundit slams 25-year-old Arsenal man for play-acting against Chelsea today
The Gunners picked up an impressive 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge thanks to Gabriel Magalhaes’ second-half goal.
Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the game and fully deserved to take all three points back to north London.
But Ashton was not impressed with what White did in the 27th minute after being on the end of a late challenge from former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Ashton slams White for play-acting
Aubameyang faced off against his former side today just 10 months after leaving north London on a free transfer.
He cut a frustrated figure leading the line for the Blues today and aimed some of his frustrations at White.
The 25-year-old Arsenal man was on the receiving end of a late tackle from Aubameyang and was left rolling around on the floor.
But Ashton feels White was play-acting, despite Aubameyang’s studs catching his foot.
“Ben White for me, he’s made a lot of that. A hell of a lot of it,” Ashton said on Soccer Sunday on Sky Sports.
“It’s a yellow card and we’ve all done it. You chase across and you leave your studs showing a bit, with the follow through on the defender normally catches them.
“But there wasn’t actually that much in it. He’s really gone down and rived on the floor. Surprisingly he’s jumped back up and he’s fine.”
It wasn’t the day Aubmayang was hoping for in west London. The 33-year-old was booked for the challenge on White and eventually substituted after having no real impact on the game.
His former side are flying at the moment and after today’s statement win, they moved back above Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table.
The result could have been even more impressive for Arsenal today as they completely dominated the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
It was a seriously impressive display from Arteta’s side and they look more like genuine title contenders every time they play.
