Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has waxed lyrical about Toffees defender Ben Godfrey, suggesting everyone has been impressed with his efforts for the Goodison Park outfit.

The 23-year-old joined Everton in October last year for a reported £25million deal, penning a five-year deal with the Blues.

Godfrey has made 22 appearances for Everton, of which 21 have been starts, and has been instrumental in the Toffees’ impressive Premier League and FA Cup form.

The 6ft 1in ace has also shown his versatility this season, playing at centre-back, left-back and right-back under Ancelotti.

Speaking ahead of Everton’s Premier League meeting with West Brom, BBC Sport asked Ancelotti about Godfrey’s chances of getting an England call-up.

“Who is not impressed with Ben Godfrey?” he replied (12:57). “He’s doing really well.

“We are really pleased and happy to have him. For sure I think with is performances, it’s absolutely normal that the England manager has a look at him.”

A member of Norwich’s superb class of 2019-20, it was little surprise to see Godfrey remain in the top flight, and he’s currently doing superbly for Everton.

England have three World Cup qualifiers coming up, so the stakes are high for Gareth Southgate, but Godfrey has certainly shown his quality, versatility and dependability this season.

Godfrey has also captained England’s Under-21s, so he has leadership skills – all things considered, he’s surely done enough to warrant a call-up.
