‘He’s been immense’: Pundit says £42m Tottenham player looks so much more in control this season

Tottenham Hotspur look like a completely different team to last season.

Spurs were, genuinely, one of the very worst sides in the Premier League towards the end of last term as they limped through games under both Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason.

However, Ange Postecoglou has injected a new life into this Spurs side, and, to a man, this Tottenham team look improved.

One player who has been so much better this season is Cristian Romero.

The World Cup winner has been commanding at the back in almost every game he’s played this season, and speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Gregor Robertson has reserved some special praise for the Argentine.

The pundit described Romero as ‘immense’, claiming that he’s no longer as reckless as he was last season, stating that he doesn’t seem as frustrated as he seemed under the previous regime.

Romero back in control

Robertson spoke highly of the £42m man.

“Van de Ven has been outstanding, the stature and presence of those guys. Romero has taken more responsibility, he’s lost that reckless edge that we saw. It was like he was getting frustrated last season with everything. He’s toned that down a bit and he’s been immense, a real leader,” Robertsons said.

So much better

It’s hard to do Romero’s improvement this season justice without sounding like you’re exaggerating.

Last season, with all due respect, Romero was a liability at times, he was a walking yellow card, or even worse at times, and he had these braindead errors in him in almost every other game.

However, this term, he seems composed, smart and completely dominant at the back.

Something has changed in the Argentine, and it’s been a joy to watch him play this way this season as he’s played a key role in Spurs’ ascension to the top of the Premier League at this point.
