'He’s been a colossus': Moyes says one West Ham player has really impressed him
West Ham United boss David Moyes has heaped praise on Kurt Zouma after the defender was omitted from the France squad for next week’s international games.
Zouma has been incredible for the Irons since joining them in the summer. He has arguably been their best defender, and many felt his performances would’ve impressed France boss Didier Deschamps as well.
However, Les Blues announced their squad this week and Zouma, sadly, didn’t make the cut. The former Chelsea man has every reason to be disappointed, but Moyes’ words will surely cheer him up.
The Irons boss has delivered his verdict on Zouma. He has claimed that the Frenchman has been a ‘colossus’ at the back for West Ham since he joined the club, which is a huge compliment to the 26-year-old.
David Moyes: Kurt Zouma has been a colossus for West Ham
Asked if Zouma’s national team omission will affect his performances, the Hammers boss said, as per Claret and Hugh: “I would hope not.
“Because that’s why we are trying to challenge the top teams because I want to be right there at the top and those players can show they are good enough to play for the international teams.
“Kurt has played really really well for us. He’s been a colossus in the games he has played so his form will not go unnoticed. I think it is a National League game so maybe that is a reason for it.
“Maybe it is the quality of the centre-halves France have got. When I signed him I knew we were taking a French international centre-half who have an incredible quality of centre-halves and he has not disappointed us from what we have seen so far.”
West Ham host a Brentford side who have impressed this season. They were outstanding against Arsenal on the opening day and they could easily have beaten Liverpool last week as well.
Ivan Toney has caused every defender in the Premier League problems so far this season. Zouma may as well face his toughest test yet, but if he and Ogbonna continue his brilliant form, they should be able to deal with the threat quite comfortably tomorrow.
