A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have welcomed the speculation claiming Spurs want Franck Kessie in the January transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham could look to avoid a summer bidding war in the summer, when his contract runs out.

Kessie, who currently plays for AC Milan, has been superb for the Rossoneri since joining from Atalanta in 2019 for £21.6million.

He has made 205 appearances for his club, registering 35 goals and 16 assists.

However, Kessie is yet to pen new terms and is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside Italy.

The Telegraph claims Spurs are weighing up a move for the Ivory Coast international this month while the mid-season window is open.

Kessie is reportedly high on Tottenham’s list of transfer targets to bolster Antonio Conte’s midfield.

While Spurs would need to pay a fee for Kessie rather than land him on a free, the competition in the summer is expected to drive up the overall outlay of signing him.

In addition, Sky Sports have claimed that Conte is a long-time admirer of the 25-year-old.

A player of Kessie’s calibre would bolster the Tottenham ranks considerably.

Vincenzo Montella has deemed him “extraordinary“ while Gennaro Gattuso said Kessie is “clearly stronger” than he was as a player.
