James Tarkowski has been speaking about the start of his Everton career.

He appeared on the Official Everton Podcast and covered a range of topics, including his journey from non-league to Goodison Park.

Tarkowski was asked about a number of his Everton teammates during the interview.

One player that came up in conversation was his centre-back partner Conor Coady.

Coady arrived on loan from Wolves a month after Tarkowski was signed.

The pair have formed an important partnership for Frank Lampard at the back.

In fact, no team in the Premier League has conceded less goals than the Toffees this season.

Tarkowski has been seriously impressed with Coady since his arrival at the club, particularly his leadership.

Coady was club captain at Wolves before being allowed to leave on loan, and has already worn the armband at Everton.

When asked about Everton’s new defender, Tarkowski said: “Coady’s class, he’s been a great addition to the team, as the manager mentioned when he gave him the armband, he’s a real, proper leader.

“Fair play to him, from the moment he walked through the door, he’s been a voice straight away.

“He’s got great respect from all the lads, and he’s an exceptional player too.

The respect between the two of them is clearly mutual, with Coady saying already saying how much he loves playing with him.

Everton are certainly benefitting from having the two leaders on the pitch alongside Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Tarkowski was a man in demand over the summer, with Aston Villa also interested in the 29-year-old.

The Telegraph reported that Gerrard even went to his house to convince him to move to Villa Park.

However, it was a move to Everton he eventually settled on.

Tarkowski now has a season to look forward to playing alongside the impressive Coady.

If his form continues as it has to far, he’ll be hoping his partner joins on a permanent basis.
