Here’s how Everton can end their horrendous away record against Arsenal

Everton take on Arsenal away from home on Sunday and the Toffees will be seeking to put to bed an absolutely atrocious record.

The Toffees haven’t beaten the Gunners in any of the last 24 matches at the Emirates Stadium or Highbury (reported by the Premier League).

You have to go back to 1996 for Everton’s last victory away against Arsenal, which came in January 1996 when the north Londoners were managed by Bruce Rioch.

What’s more Marco Silva’s team were beaten last weekend by West Ham – their first defeat of the season.

They’ll be trying to bounce back, but history suggests it’ll be no easy feat. In fact, history suggests it could be an absolute nightmare.

But here are some measures the Portuguese could take and, with a bit of luck, the visitors could finally end their hoodoo…

Holgate to right-back

Silva must consider switching Mason Holgate to right-back following Jonjoe Kenny’s poor performance against West Ham.

Kenny struggled against Felipe Anderson, and a potential clash with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doesn’t bare thinking about.

Unsettle the Gunners

Arsenal can be a great team to watch with their slick passing but they do not like being knocked about.

It’ll be important for the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Scheiderlin to be as disruptive to the hosts’ passing game as possible.

Throw in those meaty challenges, intimidate impressive youngster Matteo Guendouzi into a mistake.

Everton simply cannot allow Mesut Ozil and co to get into their rhythm.

Target Petr Cech

The Premier League legend is really struggling at the moment, with Unai Emery keen to press ahead with his play-out-from-the-back mantra.

It’s only a matter of time before Bernd Leno replaces him, but Cech will probably start again on Sunday.

If that’s the case Everton must press him quickly, and they must also challenge him on set pieces.

Pass to Richarlison

When in doubt, pass to Richarlison.

The £40 million summer signing from Watford is back from suspension and will be keen to pick up where he left off.

The Brazilian started off the new season in fine form.

He makes things happen, and is extremely dangerous ghosting inside to support Cenk Tosun.

His finishing has greatly improved since last season, and he could give the struggling Hector Bellerin the runaround.
