Fabrizio Romano shares Andreas Schjelderup transfer update amid Liverpool links

Liverpool have been linked with Norwegian midfield talent Andreas Schjelderup in recent months.

In September, CMW claimed the Reds and Arsenal were among the clubs eyeing the FC Nordsjaelland prodigy.

There have also been more recent links between the Anfield outfit and Schjelderup.

TV2 in Norway claimed that Liverpool and Brentford had made proposals to the 18-year-old’s representatives.

However, it looks as though the Reds will once again miss out on the talented youngster.

Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that Schjelderup will now be joining Benfica instead.

“Here we go and confirmed,” he wrote. “Big move for the Norwegian top talent on €10m fee plus add-ons.

“Contract until June 2028 as expected, medical this week.

“Benfica anticipated English clubs on this gem born in 2004.”

A year ago, Schjelderup told Goal.com that Liverpool were one of the clubs he had a trial at in 2020.

He also admitted he’s a boyhood Reds fan.

There were plenty of signs suggesting Schjelderup and Liverpool were a good match.

After all, the Reds have made a number of surprise signings over the past year, landing players seemingly out of the blue amid fierce competition.

With that in mind, the prospect of a Liverpool-supporting talent joining a club he has already had a trial at seemed plausible enough.

At the same time, Schjelderup’s first-team chances would’ve probably been few and far between for the time being.

Liverpool have quite a few talented young midfielders in their ranks already.

Maybe it’s best that Schjelderup continues to get regular first-team football and, a few years down the line, can get his big move elsewhere.
