Arsenal made another positive step towards their future yesterday as the Gunners tied up a new contract with goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo.
The young stopper has put pen to paper on fresh terms with the Gunners and, in a big bonus, has also been promoted into the first-team squad.
It’s a huge boost of confidence for Okonkwo, who has impressed in the under-23s and other youth teams in previous seasons. His promotion to the first-team is likely to see the end for Alex Runnarsson, with Arsenal said to be looking for another goalkeeper as well.
With Folarin Balogun tied down, and a new deal for Kido Taylor-Hart close, it’s looking good for Arsenal of late.
Understandably, Arsenal fans are delighted with the news and have been congratulating the young stopper on Twitter.
One for the future
Mikel Arteta deserves some credit for getting some of these young players tied down. Okonkwo getting a new contract is one of a number of big decisions the Gunners boss has got right.
The stopper has a bright future. Arsenal, on the other hand, have gone from looking like losing a number of top talents, to keeping most of them.
