Henri Lansbury must target reunion with Philippe Montanier to save career

Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury simply needs a fresh start come February. The midfielder joined Aston Villa from Nottingham Forest in January 2017 for a reported £3 million fee. At the time he was considered one of the best players in the Championship. However, he has struggled at Villa Park.

He could not find his best form and was eventually cast aside by Steve Bruce. That situation has not changed since Dean Smith took over.  Lansbury’s last appearance was in the 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion in the EFL Cup back in August and his career at Villa Park looks over.

But who is going to want him in the Championship after his recent struggles?

Maybe, a move abroad would be best for the 28-year-old.

One option he should push for is a switch to France and Ligue 2 outfit RC Lens. They are managed by his former Nottingham Forest boss Philippe Montanier, who undoubtedly got him playing his best football at the City Ground.

“We’ve had an offer but it’s not me who makes the decision to sell him.

“He’s my captain and the best player on my team. It is confidential but we have received offers from teams.”

When teams began circling Lansbury, the Frenchman was desperate to keep his star midfielder. Lens are firmly in the promotion hunt in France’s second-tier, currently in fourth place. But bringing in another creative force in the middle of the park would certainly help them in their quest.

Aston Villa’s star misfit must try his best to force a move in January to save his flagging career. A switch to France with his old boss Montanier could be the perfect solution.
