Henri Lansbury flops in last chance Aston Villa saloon

Aston Villa fans were left disappointed tonight after being dumped out of the League Cup. The Championship side made changes to their team and paid the price, losing to League One Burton Albion 1-0. Liam Boyce’s goal was enough for the win, with Albert Adomah missing a late penalty to take the game beyond 90 minutes.

This was a chance for several Aston Villa fringe players to prove a point. Not many of them came out of the game with any real credit.

One such player was Henri Lansbury.

When Aston Villa signed him from Nottingham Forest in January 2017 he was considered one of the divisions finest players.

But he has struggled to replicate his City Ground form at Villa Park and tonight was no different.

He simply could not have an impact on the game and it is no doubt frustrating for Aston Villa fans, who know what he is capable of from his time at Forest.

The highlight of Lansbury’s performance? It was probably a wayward shot in the first-half so bad, it went into the Pirelli Stadium car park.

This might have been last chance saloon for Lansbury and you must wonder if the club will try to get his reported £40,000-a-week wages off their boos before the end of the month.
