Henderson and Jones react as 18-year-old stars during win for Liverpool

Liverpool defeated Burnley 2-0 on Saturday with Harvey Elliott making his first Premier League start for the Reds. He was a surprise inclusion in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up, playing in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. Afterwards, Curtis Jones and Henderson reacted on Instagram.

Elliott is back at Anfield after making quite the impression on loan at Blackburn. During the 2020/21 campaign, he scored seven times and claimed 11 assists as Rovers briefly flirted with the play-offs under Tony Mowbray.

At 18, it was unclear how Klopp would view his future this season. After a sound pre-season, however, he has been handed a chance to star in the first team it would seem.

On Saturday he completed the full 90 minutes and looked lively throughout the contest. Afterwards, he took to Instagram to speak of his pride and he’ll now hope to feature even more under Klopp this season.

What have Henderson and Jones said about Liverpool talent Elliott?

Henderson was the captain on Saturday. He helped Elliott through the game in midfield and his presence allowed the teenager to get forward and help out with several attacks.

He chose to sum up Elliott’s performance with an emoji. The love heart he posted on his Instagram suggests that the youngster has the backing of his captain at Anfield.

Jones was an unused substitute at the weekend. He didn’t manage to get on the pitch and might have been disappointed to see Elliott get the nod ahead of him.

With the games coming thick and fast, however, there should be plenty of chances for him to star in the Liverpool team this season.

Elliott and Jones could be the future of Liverpool’s midfield engine room. With that in mind, perhaps Klopp will unleash the pair together in the future.
