‘Helped Wolves’, ‘just can’t stop’: Alan Shearer in awe of Molineux duo

Alan Shearer has praised Wolverhampton Wanderers duo Diogo Jota and Romain Saiss as they made the latest Premier League Team of the Week (official Premier League website).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves ran out 3-0 winners over relegation-threatened Norwich at Molineux on Sunday, with Jota making it five goals for the week in all competitions.

Following his hat-trick in the 4-0 hammering of Espanyol, the 23-year-old opened the scoring against the Canaries in the 19th minute and added a second on the half-hour mark.

Raul Jimenez then made it three in the second half as Wolves cruised to a simple victory.

Saiss, meanwhile, is now taking his excellent form to the opposite end of the pitch, with a superb assist for Jota’s second, on top of keeping guard superbly down Wolves’ left.

As a result, both Jota and Saiss made Shearer’s best XI of matchweek 27, the retired England ace saying of the former: “He just can’t stop scoring. Another two goals means he has netted five times in three days.”

Of the latter, meanwhile, Shearer said: “An assist for his team’s second goal and helped Wolves keep a third consecutive Premier League clean sheet.”

Wolves are finding form as the season enters the business end and it’s great to see two Molineux players get recognition for their heroics last time out.

Jota’s form has been up and down this season, but with six goals in his last two Europa League games and five in his last two in all competitions, he’s looking back to his best.

Saiss, meanwhile, has improved massively in recent months not just in terms of performances but also in terms of his disciplinary record and decision-making in matches – long may it continue!
