‘He’ll play our kind of way’: Ben Parker reacts to Leeds links with £10m-rated player
Ben Parker has given a positive response to reported Leeds United interest in goalkeeper Freddie Woodman at Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Woodman is one of three goalkeepers that Leeds are considering as a Kiko Casilla replacement.
Casilla has completed a season-long loan exit, so Leeds are eyeing a replacement.
The report says Newcastle shot-stopper Woodman is an individual who’s in their sights as a possible target.
Woodman, 24, is back with Newcastle after impressing during the last two campaigns on loan with Swansea City in the Championship.
The £10million-rated goalkeeper has had previous success in the second tier, but is still waiting for his Premier League debut.
Parker is confident the Newcastle gloveman could suit Leeds because of his quality on the ball.
“I think Woodman is probably the frontrunner in the rumour mill. I’ve watched him a few times for Swansea and he’ll play our kind of way. Swansea like to play out from the back.. I’d be happy with the likes of a Woodman,” Parker told LS11 podcast.
Woodman would improve Leeds depth
Leeds obviously need to bring in a goalkeeper this summer because they need genuine competition for Illan Meslier in net.
Woodman looks ready for Premier League football, so would be a solid addition to the Leeds squad.
However, £10million for someone who might not play too often is steep.
With two years remaining on his Newcastle deal at St James’ Park, it’s going to be intriguing to see where he’s playing his football in the new season.
