'He'll be fuming': Ian Wright thinks 29-year-old Tottenham player will be so angry after Spurs's first game of the season

Ian Wright and Darren Bent believe that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will have been angry after Tottenham’s opening game of the season.

On The Kelly and Wrighty Show, the two pundits were talking about Kane’s role at Spurs this season, after Tottenham won their opening Premier League game 4-1 at home to Southampton, but the number ten failed to get on the scoresheet.

Ian Wright said: “It depends on how hungry he (Kane) is in terms of wanting to score.

“I know it’s the first game and he doesn’t really do well in August but the fact is, do you think he would have left that game and be happy with that, as he’s not on the scoresheet and he’s happy with that? He’ll be fuming!”

Darren Bent added: “Even with Kane, as hungry as he is, I don’t think he’ll detract from what he usually does. He has been scoring 25 goals a season, playing the exact same way, not limiting himself to just getting in the box.”

As Bent alludes to, Kane has a reputation for not scoring in August, despite breaking that duck against Fulham all the way back in 2018.

However, he has a fantastic record against Southampton, scoring 11 goals in 19 appearances against the Saints.

So, he would have been disappointed not to add to that tally at the weekend.

Kane will be angry after opening Tottenham game, says Wright

Harry Kane’s contribution at Tottenham has been more than just scoring goals for a while now.

The Spurs and England captain was the Premier League top scorer and top assister two seasons ago, and is absolutely vital to Antonio Conte’s side.

And this approach to his game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium continued on Saturday, providing the same number of key passes to teammates as the number he shots he took, two of each.

Although Kane will have one eye on his goals tally this season, it’s not an aspect of his game he will worry about, given how prolific he’s been for many years in the Premier League now.

But, if Spurs were to lose the creative spark he brings to the team in order to concentrate more on scoring goals, they would definitely suffer as a result.

Plenty of Spurs players impressed on Saturday, with Dejan Kulusevski compared to Kevin de Bruyne, and Antonio Conte singling out two of his stars for praise. Tottenham will be hoping to stay top of the table after next weekend, when they face their first London derby with a visit to Chelsea
