‘He’ll be a big loss’: McCoist discusses Liverpool star

Ally McCoist has delivered his verdict on Liverpool star Mo Salah during co-commentary on Amazon Prime – ahead of the African Cup of Nations.

Salah, 29, took his tally to 19 goals in 19 games on Wednesday night with a brace against Everton. Liverpool tore Rafa Benitez’s side apart.

The Reds scored four goals away from home again, conceding once to Demarai Gray. But Liverpool are flying, and Salah is pivotal to that.

Not only has the Egyptian netted 19 times, but he has also laid on seven assists. So, he is going to be a huge loss when AFCON hits in January.

Salah is expected to travel immediately after Christmas and he might not be seen until early February, depending how well Egypt do in the tournament.

McCoist said when giving the man-of-the-match award that Salah will be a huge loss, raving about the attacker and naming him as the MOTM.

“That man there [Salah] has been wonderful,” McCoist said. “Henderson was tremendous but Salah; no prizes for guessing who MOTM is for me.

“That second finish, he’s got everything in his armory. I tell you what I am 100% sure of. He’ll be a big loss at the African Cup of Nations.”

McCoist on Salah: Do Liverpool need to bring in a replacement?

Well, they will also be without Sadio Mane. Two of their main attacking cogs will be missing – and they lack a serious amount of replacements, too.

Naby Keita’s absence means the midfielders that could play in a front three will have to cover him. Like Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Harvey Elliott remains on the sidelines, while Xherdan Shaqiri was sold to Lyon in the summer. So, a replacement will surely be needed.

But Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi will be licking their lips at the chance to finally get some game time. A loan might be ideal for the Reds.
