Tottenham Hotspur should firm up their interest in Hector Herrera this January.
According to reports, Spurs are admirers of the FC Porto midfielder but they need to act quickly to beat off competition and land him in the winter.
Other clubs are in for Herrera and he is a man in demand after impressing for Porto and Mexico.
The Mexican international has 70 caps to his name and he impressed at this summer’s World Cup.
And after over five years at Porto, he could finally move away from the Portuguese giants.
He has less than a year remaining on his current deal, according to transfermarkt, and Spurs could secure a cut-price deal for his services.
And Herrera is the ideal candidate for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who need reinforcements in midfield.
With Mousa Dembele’s future unclear, Spurs need to secure his replacement in the middle of the park.
Herrera is full of energy and his relentless running in midfield makes him a great option to have.
The 28-year-old is also comfortable with both his attacking and defensive roles in central midfield, making him a well-rounded player in this position.
Herrera would be an upgrade on Eric Dier and he would provide top class competition for Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama.
And with his contract coming to an end, there are few better players out there who could be available for a bargain price this January.
