‘Heavily reliant’: Danny Murphy £27m player might actually be too important to Arsenal now

Arsenal have one of the best squads in world football.

Almost every position on the pitch is occupied by a player who is bordering on world-class, and that’s why they’re top of the league right now.

However, as the Gunners showed last season, this position at this point of the season doesn’t guarantee success come the end of the year, and, as we all saw, it only took one injury last term to bring everything crashing down.

Last term, William Saliba picked up an injury at the business-end of the campaign, and speaking on TalkSPORT, Danny Murphy has stated that he thinks Arsenal are still a bit too reliant on the French defender.

Saliba may be too important at Arsenal

Murphy shared his verdict on the £27m man.

“I’m still in the City camp and I think Liverpool have a good chance as well, but it is a good sign when you get over the line in a game where you don’t play so well, they’re better because they have Rice, Rice is better than what they had, but we’ll see, I still think they’re heavily reliant on Saliba,” Murphy said.

Better prepared

Saliba is undoubtedly one of Arsenal’s most important players, but, Arsenal are more prepared to be without Saliba than they were last season.

Jurrien Timber will be back fit soon and he can fill-in in that centre-back role, while Arsenal will be hoping that they’re not in a situation where Takehiro Tomiyasu is injured at the same time as Saliba again so Ben White can also be an option.

Of course, Saliba is an important player to Arsenal, but he’s also incredibly reliable, so putting a fair bit of responsibility on his shoulders really isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Saliba is important, but key players at any club are always going to be.
