It was a special day for Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo yesterday. The Ivory Coast striker started his first game for Celtic as they ran out 3-1 winners against Hearts at Parkhead.
It was also a dream full debut, as Bayo scored two goals for the Bhoys. It was a great moment for the 22-year-old, who has had to patiently wait for his chances since a January move from Slovakian side DAC Dunajska Streda.

But it seems two men at Hearts are not willing to give Bayo the credit he deserves. Both Hearts captain and manager Christophe Berra and Craig Levein respectively have stated that Bayo’s goals were both own goals.
Berra, speaking to BBC Sport, suggested he put the ball in the net for Bayo’s first whilst Charlie Halkett did the same for the second.
“Yeah, it was a cross and from a yard just bounced up and hit me. We should have dealt with it better overall, but I couldn’t get out the way. We’ve scored two own goals today.”
Levein concurred, as reported by BBC Sport.
“The first one is a Christophe Berra own goal and Craig Halkett scored the third goal and he said he got his toe on it which is an own goal as well.”
TBR’s View
It will be tough to take just one of these goals away from Bayo, let alone two.
Both seem up for debate but what isn’t is the role that the Ivorian played in both goals.
His movement left Berra and Halkett scrambling and the signs are certainly promising that Bayo can go on to have an important role to play for Neil Lennon’s side this season.
As far as the goals go today, hopefully, Bayo will get to keep the credit for at least one of them.
