Hearts boss Craig Levein has joked that he will bid for Alfredo Morelos when asked about Aaron Hickey’s potential move to Rangers.
As reported by The Edinburgh News, Levein brushed aside rumours that Hickey would be joining Rangers in the new year. A recent report by The Sun suggested Rangers’ new Sporting Director Ross Wilson would recommend a £2m move for Hickey.
Wilson wanted Hickey at Southampton before he left the Premier League club. Manchester City are also interested in the teenage left-back, according to the same report by The Sun.
But Hearts managed has laughed off these rumours, pointing out that they have surfaced ahead of a crunch clash. Hearts take on Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday – putting more emphasis on Hickey’s performance.
Levein said (via The Edinburgh News): “Who do we play at the weekend? We’re going to put an offer in for (Alfredo) Morelos tomorrow. I’m taking that one with a lump of salt.”
Hickey is already proving his worth in the Scottish Premiership and he would be an exciting signing for Rangers. The ex-Celtic defender is wanted by Man City so it is clear how highly rated he is.
But Levein seems confident in keeping Hickey at Hearts. He confirmed that the club are in negotiations with the 17-year-old and his dad over a new deal. This could bump his price up above £2m.
