Japhet Tanganga has revealed that Nuno was encouraging Tottenham Hotspur’s players to take more shots at half-time in their clash with Manchester City.
Taking more shots
Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Tanganga shed some light into what Nuno had spoken about in the dressing room, as Spurs claimed a 1-0 victory over last season’s Premier League champions.
A strike from Heung-Min Son proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Son’s finish, from just outside the box, was brilliantly placed – but it was noticeable that he showed more attacking intent in the second 45 minutes.
Son had been given opportunities twice by Tottenham teammates in the first half, but he refused to take a shot, and instead passed backwards.
However, there was only ever one thought in his mind, when he collected the ball out wide in the second half, and cut inside.
And Tanganga feels that Nuno’s message may have made Son think more clinically.

Nuno’s words of wisdom
“We had chances in the first half,” he said. “The manager spoke to us at half-time and said the defenders and midfielders are there to create a chance for the strikers, and they have to be the killers. They have to put the game away.
“First half we had our chances, but the gaffer said in the second half a lot more shots, and I think Sonny heard that and thankfully it went in. It was a good finish as well.”
Nuno certainly made an excellent first impression during his first match in charge of Spurs.
The mood around Tottenham has quickly changed as a result of the victory.
And there is now real optimism that Nuno’s side could well surpass the expectations of many this term.
