Tottenham Hotspur have made some seemingly pointless signings over the past few years.
Indeed, for some reason Spurs seem to have a knack of signing players only to never really use them.
The likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Joe Rodon barely got a shot after signing for Spurs, while Jack Clarke and Djed Spence were also not given many opportunities.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, David Prutton has been discussing Spence and Clarke’s moves to Tottenham, and he says that he remains baffled by Spurs’ usage of these two players, claiming that they never really got a chance to prove themselves in north London.

Spence and Clarke were never used properly
Prutton spoke about the winger and the £20m man.
“It’s a funny one with Spurs because that move (Jack Clarke) and Djed Spence come to mind and the way they used those two players is a bit of a headscratcher, because it didn’t feel as though either of those got a chance, and that can’t be nice for a young player to go from somewhere you were nurtured, cared for and looked after, to a super-club where you’re a tiny cog in a massive machine and it can make your head spin,” Prutton said.
Difficult
It’s so difficult for a young player to break in at Tottenham.
Spence and Clarke both looked like Championship stars before making their big moves, but there’s a huge gulf between the Championship and the Champions League.
Quite simply, these two weren’t ready to make this switch, and they were swallowed up by the size of the club at Spurs.
In turn, their confidence took a huge knock, and they had to take a step backwards to go forwards once again.
Clarke has recovered and looks ready for a Premier League return now, and we can only hope that Spence can do the same during his loan with Genoa.
