Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton has suggested to the club’s official website that Dan Burn is very impressive in training.

Burn scored his first ever goal for the club against Leicester City last night since making the £13 million switch from Brighton this time last year.

Newcastle booked their place in the semi-final of the EFL Cup thanks to second-half goals from the 30-year-old and Joelinton.

It’s the first time since 2005 that the Magpies have managed to reach a cup semi-final and Burn could not hide his delight at opening his account for his boyhood club.

The chances were flowing from the very first minute for Eddie Howe’s side, but a moment of class from Burn opened the scoring.

The converted left-back pressurised Marc Albrighton into losing possession and made a run into the area before receiving the ball. Burn managed to shrug off the Leicester defenders before placing his effort into the bottom corner with his weaker foot.

His teammates were clearly delighted for him and Joelinton praised the former Brighton man after the game.

Joelinton on Burn

Speaking to the club’s official website after last night’s 2-0 win over the Foxes, Joelinton suggested that Burn works tirelessly in training.

“Very, very pleased for him. Amazing moment for him and his family. I’m very happy for him,” the Brazilian said.

“He’s a great guy. Everyone knows how he loves the club. He works so hard and he has waited for so long for this time. Today was a nice day, everyone in the team is very happy for him.”

Burn has probably been waiting for this moment ever since he completed a move to his boyhood club.

The defender chose the perfect time to score as well as his goal put Howe’s side on their way after it looked like it could be a frustrating night for them.

Newcastle will feel they have every chance of going on to lift the League Cup after the way they’ve been playing this season.
