Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been praised by Gary Neville as the Sky Sports pundit discussed the latest speculation around the Reds star’s future at Anfield.

Salah gave an exclusive interview to Spanish newspaper AS at the weekend in which he expressed his admiration for both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

When questioned on remaining at Liverpool, the Egypt international said, as translated by Sky Sports: “That’s a tough one, but right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands.”

Salah also expressed disappointment that he was not given the captain’s armband in the Champions League dead rubber against Midtjylland.

Neville wasn’t particularly surprised at speculation over Salah’s future resurfacing, claiming he always felt the 28-year-old would have aspirations of playing in a different country.

“I thought Salah would always leave Liverpool,” the Manchester United legend said on Sky Sports.

“I said it a couple of years ago and maybe it was a bit premature at the time to say I think he’ll leave in the next 18 months.

“I always had the feeling that he’d want to go, explore playing in a different country and that he would have aspirations to do so.”

Neville also picked Salah ahead of team-mate Sadio Mane in his Premier League team of 2020.

“The reason I’ve always chosen Salah over Mane is because he’s cold-blooded,” said Neville.

“Mane’s a team player, who you know would always put the team first, but Salah is cold-blooded and that’s not a negative.

“It makes Liverpool vicious as a team and he’s the type who will just go for it again and again and again and again, and he won’t stop.

“That’s probably why the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, whoever it is that’s after him is probably in his ear.”

Salah has scored 110 goals in 173 appearances since joining Liverpool from Roma for £34m in June 2017, and his current contract at Anfield runs until 2023.

Salah has been sensational for Liverpool over the years, so it’s worrying to see this transfer speculation surfacing once again.

Truth be told, however, there is no suggestion that a move is going to happen any time soon, and all this talk sounds like little more than a storm in a teacup.
