A former Newcastle United star who won the Wor Jackie award has signed for the third-worst team in the country, looking to get his career back on track.
Sport Newcastle awards the award annually to a member of the club’s academy who has shown great potential to become a big star.
Over the years, Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley, and Adam Armstrong have won this award after giving glimpses of their potential.
However, Rolando Aarons won the award in 2015, but he hasn’t quite managed to follow up on the hype that surrounded him at the time.

Rolando Aarons has signed for Morecambe
Aarons was once seen as a potential star for Newcastle, given his ability on the ball and his confidence in his ability to beat his man in a one-on-one situation.
He was under contract at St. James’ Park from 2014 to 2021, although he spent the majority of that time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Motherwell before joining Huddersfield Town.
Aarons did make 27 appearances for Newcastle throughout his tenure, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
The Jamaican international has now joined National League side Morecambe as a free agent, after he spent the summer training with the Professional Footballers’ Association out-of-contract camp.
He caught the eye of the Shrimps and was handed an opportunity to get back into the game following spells in the Czech Republic and Scotland.
Morecambe are statistically one of the worst teams in England
Aarons will be under immediate pressure to deliver for Morecambe, as the club is currently in a difficult position within the National League.
Morecambe sit 22nd in the table after their opening seven games, having only picked up seven points this season.
Their tough circumstances on the field pale in comparison to what’s been happening off it. Morecambe were suspended from the league earlier this season and removed from the National League Cup.
Those sanctions were put in place due to financial issues, but they are now able to compete again, although certain financial embargoes remain in place.
