He has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the Seagulls but has impressed at Derby the last two seasons.

Although West Brom are apparently in talks with the south coast club, Sheffield United are also said to be in the race.

The Baggies currently have Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley, Dara O’Shea and Cedric Kirpe in their ranks.

However, new West Brom boss Valerien Ismael has tended to play with a back three throughout his career, so he could potentially target another centre-back.

“Future England international”

Clarke spent four years at Portsmouth, first joining on loan from Ipswich in 2015.

He then signed permanently the following year, joining on a free transfer.

Clarke made 175 competitive appearances for the south coast club between 2016 and 2019.

And he achieved near-enough legendary status at Fratton Park, with some fans tipping him for a future place in the England team.
