'He will never admit it': Tuchel makes Conte claim ahead of Chelsea v Tottenham clash
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has given his verdict on how Tottenham Hotspur could fare under Antonio Conte this season.
Spurs head to Stamford Bridge on Sunday to take on the Blues in arguably the standout fixture of the season so far.
Chelsea and Tottenham finished third and fourth respectively in last season’s Premier League table.
And both have strengthened their ranks considerably this summer.
The Blues have spent over £150m bringing in the likes of Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Meanwhile, Spurs have made six new signings, with a seventh – Destiny Udogie – seemingly on the way.
Tottenham laid down a marker in their first game of the season, hammering Southampton 4-1 in north London.
Better still, Spurs got their resounding victory despite both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min struggling in the match.
And Tuchel, speaking at his pre-match press conference, believes Conte will make Tottenham into title contenders.
“I think that every team Antonio Conte trains is a title contender,” the Chelsea boss told football.london.
“It’s always like this, in every country with every team.
“They strengthened their squad, they strengthened in their depth, and they have a very demanding coach with an incredible record in domestic titles.
“He will push them to the limit and any team with this kind of quality management, which pushes players to the limit, can over-perform and fight for the top four.
“And if you fight for the top four, you fight for everything. If you’re still in the race in March, you’re fighting for everything.
“It’s a long way to go and he will never admit it, but for me, an Antonio Conte team fights for everything.”
