Fabrizio Romano has provided an insight into Darwin Nunez’s move to Liverpool earlier this summer.

The transfer guru revealed just how impressed Klopp was by the Uruguayan in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Last month, Liverpool signed Nunez for a fee which could reach a club-record £85million.

The 23-year-old arrived at Anfield as one of the best young forwards in world football.

Nunez’s last season at Benfica saw him clock up some impressive statistics.

He registered a staggering 34 goals and four assists from just 41 appearances in all competitions.

Nunez also impressed against Liverpool in the Champions League, netting twice against his future employers.

“This Darwin Nunez story started a long time ago,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“It’s true that Darwin had a fantastic impact against Liverpool in the Champions League games.

“Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of checking players in the real games in the face-to-face games with his own Liverpool.

“And he was really surprised by the impact of this fantastic striker.”

The best players make it count on the big stage against the big teams, whether it’s in pursuit of silverware or just to convince suitors that he’s the real deal.

Nunez did just that against Liverpool, showing he’s capable of delivering against the very best in the world.

And when Klopp had a chance to see the player in the flesh, that may well have been what sealed the deal for him.

Now, the Uruguay international has the chance to keep the Anfield juggernaut going as they look to reclaim the Premier League and Champions League title.
