‘He was outstanding’: Sky Sports pundit says 25-year-old Arsenal man 'totally sent' Tottenham Hotspur player yesterday

Arsenal took the spoils in yesterday’s north London derby, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at the Emirates.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (2/10 12:07pm) pundit Dean Ashton was really impressed by Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.

Goals from Thomas Partey, Jesus and Granit Xhaka secured the Gunners a massive three points.

Harry Kane scored his 100th Premier League away goal from the spot but couldn’t prevent a Spurs defeat.

One moment in particular stood out to Ashton, when Jesus ‘totally sent’ Tottenham defender Emerson Royal.

In the first half, Jesus picked up the ball just outside the box and drove at the Brazilian defender.

The Arsenal forward then feigned to go right, before chopping left, nearly knocking Royal off his feet.

Jesus wriggled past another defender before getting a shot away that was well saved by Hugo Lloris.

Ashton: Jesus ‘totally sent’ Royal yesterday

Dean Ashton was asked about how the Brazilian number nine had fared since his arrival at Arsenal.

The former West Ham and Norwich striker admitted there were aspects of his game that had really surprised him.

“The start he’s (Jesus) made, right through pre-season where he was outstanding, he’s taken that on.” Ashton said.

“He looks like a leader, and that’s surprised me.

“He’s way more physical as well than I thought, especially when he backs in, he bouncing defenders off him and getting hold of it.

“Then there’s the wonderful bits, the bits where Jesus totally sent Emerson Royal yesterday with a little chop that he took to the side.

“Just those bits of magic that you want to see.

“You only produce that if you’re confident, if you believe in yourself and there’s no one really more confident apart from (Erling) Haaland than him right now.”

Jesus has earned plenty of plaudits since arriving at The Emirates.

Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva thinks his compatriot is ‘doing great’ under Mikel Arteta.

Jesus had the chance to join Tottenham in the summer, but after yesterday’s performance, he’ll be thinking he’s made the right decision.
