‘He was excellent’… Ange Postecoglou seriously impressed by one Tottenham player vs Luton Town

Ange Postecoglou has singled one of his Tottenham Hotspur players out for praise after yesterday’s win over Luton Town.

Tottenham left it late to grab three points against Luton on Saturday as Heung-min Son struck late to hand his side a 2-1 victory.

Once again, Spurs found themselves a goal behind at the break after a frustrating opening 45 minutes.

Tahith Chong opened the scoring inside three minutes with a well-taken goal after some good work from former Tottenham man Andros Townsend down the right-hand side.

Spurs searched for a leveller as Son hit both posts with an effort after racing through on goal before Pape Matar Sarr’s follow-up effort was cleared off the line.

Timo Werner also created a chance to tuck one away after beating Issa Kabore down the left-hand side. But the German dragged his effort inches wide of the post.

With Dejan Kulusevski struggling off the right-hand side in the first half, it was his replacement Brennan Johnson who ultimately changed the game.

The 22-year-old came off the bench to force Kabore to turn the ball into his own net after a brilliant delivery across the six-yard box.

Johnson also set up Son for the winner and has made quite the impact after coming off the bench in recent home games.

Speaking to Spurs Play, Ange Postecoglou explained his decision to replace Kulusevski with Johnson at halftime yesterday.

“Yeah, I thought Brennan was excellent today,” the Tottenham boss said. “We felt at halftime, bringing him on with Timo really wide, we could stretch them.

“I thought both wingers were outstanding in the second half and it was great for Brennan. He’s made quite a few impacts now off the bench and the challenge for him is to maintain that consistency.

“We know what a good player he can be and try to make an impact whenever he plays.”

Johnson quietly enjoying an impressive first season at Tottenham

Despite initial concerns over his level of performances at Tottenham, it’s fair to say that Johnson has been a standout performer in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old was struggling for confidence before the new year and ultimately lost his place in the starting XI.

But he’s proving to be an important part of Postecoglou’s squad and has netted four goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League this term.

Six of those goal involvements have come in his last eight appearances for Spurs and the winger seems to be finding his feet after his summer switch from Nottingham Forest.
