Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been described as “crazy” by one-time Gunners teammate Alex Iwobi, who added that he works hard despite what some critics may think.
The Nigeria international, who now plies his trade at Premier League rivals Everton, spent four years playing alongside Ozil in the Arsenal senior team.
Ozil has previously found himself under criticism from certain quarters due to what has been perceived as poor work ethic, given his sometimes nonchalant playing style.
However, Iwobi has stressed that “people judge it wrong”, saying the German is indeed a hard worker and a high-quality player, making his list of the five top players he’s turned out alongside.
Iwobi told an Instagram Q&A about the 31-year-old, as quoted by All Nigeria Soccer: “He was crazy.
“Obviously, because of his body language, people think he’s not working hard. But he actually works hard, people judge it wrong.”
Ozil didn’t have the best of times during Unai Emery’s stint as Arsenal head coach, finding himself in and out of the squad with his Emirates Stadium future in serious doubt.
However, the former Real Madrid man looks like he’s been enjoying his football under Mikel Arteta once again, though his future is still somewhat uncertain given his contract expires next year.
That said, given Arteta has made it clear he selects players based on how hard they work in training, and Ozil has been featuring regularly under the Spaniard, he must be doing something right.
