'He was brilliant': Jamie O'Hara lauds Jack Grealish for Manchester City display

Jack Grealish might not have got on the scoresheet for Manchester City at Watford this weekend, but Talksport’s Jamie O’Hara felt he was ‘brilliant’ for Pep Guardiola.

Grealish signed for City in the summer in a blockbuster deal worth around £100m. After dominating for Aston Villa, a move to a top four club was the next logical step for Grealish.

Of course, playing for City brings fresh challenges. He is up against serious competition in attacking areas, and playing the wide left role he did at Villa now seems a thing of the past. However, according to O’Hara, that could be a good thing for Grealish, with the former Spurs man insisting City are better using Grealish centrally.

“Obviously he didn’t score, but how he played and where he played, he was involved in all of the goals. If you’re going to get the best out of Jack Grealish, that’s where you play him,” O’Hara said this morning on Talksport.

“I don’t think he suits playing in wide areas for Man City. I know he did at Villa. But they play a different style. With City, I think he’s got to be in and around the middle, in that false nine area. I thought he played brilliant.”

After failing to land Harry Kane, Guardiola has stuck firmly with the idea of not playing a central striker. So far, it’s working, with Grealish looking a key player in that system.

TBR’s View: Grealish will keep on getting better for Manchester City

A couple of niggles have seen Grealish not quite hit top gear for City as yet but it is coming. And when it does, this team will take some stopping.

City are already exceptional. So if they can get the best from Grealish and he can start contributing to the goals column as well, then the sky’s the limit.

O’Hara makes a valid point here, too. Grealish’s role is different to that one he had at Villa and Guardiola seems to be improving his new man even more.
