Arsenal newcomer Fabio Vieira has praised Gunners teammate and fellow countryman Cedric Soares.

The Arsenal summer signing, speaking to The Athletic, said the 30-year-old is such a “good person”.

Vieira joined the Gunners in June for a reported £34.2million and penned a long-term contract at the Emirates.

The 22-year-old will no doubt need some time to acclimatise to life in England and Premier League football.

However, Vieira is helped by the fact Arsenal have several Portuguese-speaking players that can help him settle in.

As per The Athletic, the former Porto ace sat with Cedric, Gabriel Martinelli, and fellow newcomers Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos on the flight to the United States.

Vieira singled Cedric out for praise as a mentor to the club’s young Latin players.

“He is a good professional; he tries to help everybody,” Vieira told The Athletic.

“It’s important. He’s older, he has experience — he won the European Championship with Portugal.

“He is a good person.”

“Fight and win”

Cedric may not be a regular at Arsenal, but his talent, attitude, experience and leadership skills are an asset to Mikel Arteta’s dressing room.

Last year, ESPN reported that Arsenal coaches have been impressed by the £75,000-a-week defender’s attitude and efforts in training.

Cedric, who took part in an interview with the outlet, also said: “I’m there fighting.

“Every week, every day, I will be there knocking [on the door], making [Arteta] a problem – in a good way – that he needs to think who to put on the pitch.

“Of course, it is his decision. I respect that and he knows that.

“But I will not make it easier. Never. This is how I grow up in my career: fight and win.”

This is exactly what Arsenal need if they are to get back to the top – talented, hard-working players with the right drive and attitude to keep standards high, give the manager a selection headache, and be a good dressing-room influence.
