‘He should go’: Emile Heskey says Keinan Davis should leave Aston Villa for now

Former England striker, Emile Heskey, has told Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis to leave the club on loan in order to get some first-team football under his belt.

Davis is said to be wanted by a host of Championship clubs in the January transfer window, with the young striker struggling for regular minutes behind Ollie Watkins.

Despite being the main back up as things stand, Davis is struggling for minutes and with the return of Wesley potentially on the cards, a move might be on the cards.

And Heskey, who made over 100 appearances for Villa, believes Davis needs to get himself out for his own sake.

“I think he needs to play. He needs to get that confidence back. I think he needs to play consistency because, again, what football is he actually getting? If he’s getting 23s football that really doesn’t bode you well for coming on in a game and making a difference, does it?,” Heskey told the Birmingham Mail.

“You need first-team football somewhere. I think he needs to go out on loan. He needs to just go out and play some football. That will be putting pressure on you as well to go and perform as well. He should go out and play, get that consistency of playing and improving his confidence. What I’ve saw from him is I like what I see.”

The big money signing of Watkins in the summer shunted Davis down the pecking order, although he has come on at times when Villa have been either chasing games or seeing them out.

It’s a tricky one this for the Villa boss. One on hand he’d like his man to improve and get more games under his belt, but on the other hand, he doesn’t have loads of options to support Watkins if he gets a knock.

Davis, too, is learning on the job and playing in a Premier League team flying high. He’ll have to simply weigh up whether he’s getting more out of sporadic appearances of whether he feels more regular appearances might help.
